Ukraine FM: Prevention of Russia’s Invasion Will Aid Global Food Security

PHNOM PENH: Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, has said that Russia's attack on Ukraine violates international law and the UN Charter, and is undermining global food security. He also expressed satisfaction over Ukraine signing on to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday morning, 12 November 2022, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine signing on to the TAC acts as a form of support in the war against Russia.

"If anyone in the world sees that Russia can get away easily with all of this, then someone will be tempted to follow suit, to follow this pattern," he said.

"This is definitely against the interests of ASEAN. So it is in the best interest of ASEAN counties to help Ukraine defend all of this both on the battleground in Ukraine, by supporting our country in this struggle, and politically in the international arena."

He added that Russia's invasion of Ukraine had undermined food security, and urged countries around the world to join in stopping Russia's "hunger games," as the grain Corridor should be exempt from the conflict.

"I call all ASEAN members to take every measure possible to stop Russia from playing hunger games with the world," he said.

Ukraine became the 50th member of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) after signing on to the treaty on the afternoon of 10 November 2022.

The 2022 ASEAN Chair has said that Cambodia is one of the countries that has always opposed Russia's aggression and demanded that Russia withdraw its troops from Ukraine. However, Cambodia also does not support sanctions placed against Russia, as they also have a negative effect on the rest of the world.
